Retail Champions

The retail industry is one of Medways strongest yet those who work in this sector are rarely accredited for their hard work. As part of the retail champions scheme Medway Council is working with MidKent College to run the Medway Ambassadors Scheme for Retail, this will accredit retail workers with NVQ levels 2 and 3 for the work they already do.

The first Ambassadors training scheme in Medway was designed for the tourism sector, creating for them the first ever-training benchmark. The achievement was the raising of the skills level of more than 200 people working in the tourism sector in Medway, improving the quality of service, networking and partnerships.

Following the success of The Ambassadors Scheme for Tourism, discussions took place between Medway Council, Town Centre Managers, Employers, and owners of small to medium size retail enterprises. The outcome of which was the creation of the Medway Ambassadors Scheme for Retail.

The retail qualification will train retail staff in marketing, business development and management. The majority of the qualification is work-based, meaning the staff can continue their regular duties undisturbed.
