Fireworks and explosives

The registration for the storage of fireworks and explosives comes under the Manufacture and Storage of Explosives Regulations 2005 (www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2005/20051082.htm). People who store fireworks or explosives have obligations to the public and must register with the council.

Additionally, under the Fireworks Regulations 2004,(Office of Public Sector Information: www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2004/20041836.htm) the sale of fireworks outside certain periods needs an extra licence, also available from the council. These periods are:

  • 5 November (15 October to 10 November);
  • New Year (26 December to 31 December);
  • Chinese New Year (on the first day of the Chinese New Year and three days immediately preceding it);
  • Diwali (on the day of Diwali and three days immediately preceding).
