Mandatory Conditions

The government plays an important role in ensuring people can make informed choices about the amount they drink; that the police and local authorities have appropriate powers to deal with those individuals who cause trouble and ensure that those who sell alcohol and provide entertainment do so responsibly.

The Secretary of State considers it appropriate for the promotion of the licensing objectives to specify mandatory conditions.  Mandatory conditions apply across England and Wales, the government expect Licensing Authorities to take any breach seriously.  Failure to comply with any conditions attached to a licence or certificate is a criminal offence, which on conviction would be punishable by a fine of up to £20,000 or up to six months imprisonment or both.
