Medway Regeneration

Modern Medway

Medway regeneration

At the heart of the Thames Gateway, only 30 miles from central London, Medway is the largest conurbation between the capital and continental Europe. It is emerging as a modern place with green spaces and a superb quality of life, close to breathtaking countryside. The area has a young and culturally diverse population.

Medway regeneration was managed from 2006 - 2011 by the Medway Renaissance partnership (set up by Medway Council).  During this time the team completed the Regeneration Framework for Medway which sets out the delivery plan for Medway – the city of learning, culture, tourism and enterprise. This 20-year regeneration programme will draw in more than £1billion of private sector investment. Although Medway Renaissance are no longer a working partnership, Medway's regeneration programme continues to thrive. The focus is on:

  • economic growth;
  • community infrastructure;
  • culture;
  • waterfront projects.

It will also lead on creating a new respect for and understanding of Medway as an international city of regional and national importance. This is a terrific opportunity to make huge improvements to the area that will benefit all its residents.
