Medway fair trader scheme

Medway Fair Trader schemeEach year we receive around 5,000 complaints from customers about businesses in Medway, a large number of these associated with home improvements. The Medway fair trader scheme helps traders and businesses comply with the law and improves consumer protection.

Fair trader scheme members:

  • comply with the law
  • issue contract terms that are fair, in plain English and clearly legible
  • ensure pricing is clear and information about payment methods is provided
  • do not carry out repair or servicing work without the customer's permission
  • make parts replaced during repair or servicing available for inspection
  • provide itemised invoices
  • operate an effective customer complaints procedure

Approval of a business does not mean that we:

  • can guarantee its financial stability
  • have individually checked the quality of any goods or services provided
  • give any guarantee or warranty as to the value for money of goods or services compared with a competitor or that they will be satisfactory

Whilst we make every effort to ensure that members comply with the law we cannot guarantee that their work will never give rise to a complaint. Further information is available in the scheme's limitations (pdf 24KB) or send your enquiry to the Fair Trader team.
