Who can foster?

There is no typical foster carer. Just like the children foster carers look after, they come from all walks of life. The one thing they have in common is a passion to give children the very best start.

We're looking for people who:

  • Want to help children succeed
  • Have a spare room
  • Are over the age of 21
  • Have plenty of time and energy, and the main carer is based at home.
  • Are enthusiastic and patient
  • Are a British citizen, or have indefinite leave to remain
  • Live within the Medway towns or within a half hour drive
  • Must have a UK driving license and a car (unless you have a disability that prevents you from driving and you can organise alternative arrangements)

Myth-busting

There are many myths about who can become a foster carer. We know all sorts of people make fantastic foster carers:

  • You can own or rent your home
  • You may be single, married or a couple
  • Your sexual orientation doesn’t matter
  • You may or may not have any children of your own
  • You can come from any background or culture
  • You can be disabled and still be able to foster
