Working hours in full-day nurseries are generally 8am-6pm or longer but there is usually an option to work full or part-time to fit in with personal circumstances.

A selection of training options and jobs can be found on the 'Working with Children and Young People' section of the family information service directory website.

Becoming a childminder

Childminding is a rewarding career that gives you the ability to work from home and to be self employed. If you are energetic, enthusiastic, and you like looking after children and planning activities for them, you will enjoy childminding.

A childminder is a person providing care for one or more children aged between birth and 18, to whom they are not related, for reward, in someone’s home – usually their own.

For more information access "How to register as a Childminder or Nanny: Quick Guide"

To become a childminder you must register with Ofsted.

For details on how to apply, training and costs and the checks that will be carried out contact the Family information service.
