It just wouldn’t be summer in Medway without the Castle Proms. The traditional celebration of beautifully composed, played and sung music, combined with fireworks and water fountains are something simply not to be missed this July.
The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Proms Orchestra have been taking part in the Castle Concerts, a highlight of the south-east tourism calendar for several years.
The mixture of some beautiful pieces of classical music, an English summer and picnics and champagne make it a great night. The concert or proms orchestra will be joined by Natasha Marsh and Nicky Spence.
Soprano Natasha has recently recorded her debut solo album Amour, which went to the top of the classical chart. Natasha tours the UK and Europe extensively, performing at the Carling Cup Final at Wembley Stadium, where she sang the national anthem. She has also appeared as a special guest for Russell Watson, G4, Il Divo and others.
Meanwhile, tenor Nicky Spence's debut album My First Love earned him a nomination in the Classical Brit Awards as Young Classical Performer of the Year. He has performed in front of Her Majesty, the Queen at the Royal Albert Hall in London and has appeared with legends such as Dame Shirley Bassey, Katherine Jenkins and Lesley Garrett CBE.
The programme is likely to include some old favourites such as:
Wood’s Fantasia on British Sea Songs,
Hornpipe, arranged by Arne,
Sargent’s Rule Britannia,
Parry’s Jerusalem,
Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture,
Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March No 1.
Celebrities who have worked with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra include Andrea Bocelli, Lesley Garrett, Sir Cliff Richard, George Benson, Henry Mancini, Dionne Warwick, Stevie Wonder and Luciano Pavarotti.
Performances include London concerts with Jose Carreras, Liza Minnelli and the Opera Babes, as well as UK tours with Russell Watson and Lesley Garrett. The orchestra appears on the BBC television appeal Children in Need.
It has toured Scandinavia, Russia, Estonia, the USA, Spain, Turkey and Monaco and played in 32 sell-out shows with Sir Cliff Richard at the Albert Hall in London.
