It is not possible to register an overseas marriage or civil partnership in the UK but they are generally regarded as being legal in this country if they are legal in the country in which they took place. If you have any doubts about the legal validity of your marriage or civil partnership you may wish to seek legal advice.
However, for most countries it is possible to deposit a copy of the certificate with the General Register Office. This does not apply to Commonwealth countries.
