Alley-gating

Photo of an AlleygateAlley-gating is a crime prevention measure which involves erecting security gates at the entrance to privately owned alleyways and passages. A number of criminal or anti-social acts can be curtailed or eliminated if security gates are installed.

However, residents should be aware that gating is only one solution and sometimes it may not be possible, for legal reasons, to install gates.

At present, we do not provide an alley-gating service but has prepared a comprehensive Alley-gating information pack (pdf, 308KB) for use by residents, which explains what they need to do, who else needs to be involved and how long the process of providing gates is likely to take.

To request maintenance of alley gates (i.e. key replacement, broken locks) or advice for suitability of an alley for gating use our Alley-gating form.
