Medway Community Officers
Medway Community Officers work towards tackling the causes
of anti-social behaviour and improving the quality of our local
environment, through investigating and dealing with complaints both
reactively and proactively, relating to:
They have powers to deal with all of the above
issues including fixed penalty notice for environmental
issues like dropping litter and dog-fouling.
Medway Community Officers also work closely with the
Environmental Enforcement Team and Waste Management, to resolve issues such as
environmental crime and street cleaning.
Officers will attend Neighbourhood
Watch, Neighbourhood Panel Meetings, Community
Engagements and Resident Association meetings to keep tabs on
issues affecting their area.
Under the Crime and
Disorder Act 1998 officers have additional
powers to assist in dealing with anti-social behaviour. Officers
also work together with other agencies, including the police
and housing
providers.
Contacting Community Officers
Community Officers are on duty seven days a week
between 5.30am and 9.30pm.
To maximise the amount of time they spend out of the
office, there are dedicated co-ordinators, who work during normal
office hours, Monday to Friday. They will collate and
prioritise the requests, then direct the officers.
The co-ordinators also investigate enquiries and complaints and
respond to them on behalf of Medway Community Officers.
Medway Community Officers are not a first response unit. If you
need help urgently, and a crime is in progress dial
999. If it is not an emergency, call the police on
101 - the new national non-emergency number for police
forces across England and Wales. Our anti-social behaviour page has more advice.
Community Officers cannot be contacted directly out of office
hours but there is a voicemail service - using the number
below - for messages to be left. These calls will be dealt
with on the next working day.
To get help please use the contact information below or complete
and return a service
request form (pdf 58KB). To use this file you will need Adobe
Acrobat Reader. If you do not have this on your computer, please
use our advice page.
Reports of litter, flytipping etc can also be submitted using
the Love Medway website and mobile phone
app. Many of the reports sent via Love Medway are followed up
by Medway's Community Officers.
