Local elections 2011

Members of the media wishing to attend the local council election count after polls close at 10pm on Thursday, May 5 2011 or the referendum count the following day will need to register in advance.

Medway Park, at Gillingham, will hold the count for Medway Council's local council elections after voting is finished.

Journalists are invited to come along and film, photograph and report on the declarations by the returning officer on the night.

The count for the referendum will be held the following day in the same place at 4pm. Members of the media are also welcome to come to this count, but need to register.

In order to register for either or both counts, please could you email our media manager at john.staples@medway.gov.uk stating which you would like to attend.

Please could you send your name, contact details and the media organisation you will be representing by 5pm on Tuesday, 3 May.

This will enable us to print off media passes in time for journalists. Only journalists pre-registered for the election count at Medway Park, at Gillingham, will be able to attend.

More information about the elections is available at:

Notes to Editors:

Please note: While camera crews and photographers are welcome to attend, members of the media are reminded that they are, of course, not allowed to take close up pictures or images of ballot papers at the count.
