Alley-gating

Photo of an AlleygateAlley-gating is a crime prevention measure which involves installing security gates at the entrance to privately owned alleyways and passages. A number of criminal or anti-social acts can be reduced or eliminated if security gates are in place.

However, residents should be aware that gating is only one solution and it may not always be possible to install gates, for legal reasons.

We don't currently provide an alley-gating service, but we have prepared a comprehensive Alley-gating information pack (pdf, 308KB) for residents, which explains what they need to do, who needs to be involved and how long the process of providing gates is likely to take.

To request maintenance of alley gates (such as key replacement, broken locks) or advice for suitability of an alley for gating use our Alley-gating form.
