Refuse Out Early

Household waste that has been presented for collection earlier than it should is known as 'refuse out early'. This includes rubbish bags, brown bins and recycling bags.

Bulky items including white goods, settees, mattresses and electrical goods should not be presented for collection with the household refuse, but booked for a bulky waste collection.

Refuse out early can cause a detriment to the area with bags being ripped open by animals and rubbish strewn across the footpath and road. It can also cause unnecessary obstructions and encourage bag theft, unauthorised searching through bags and illegal waste collection, which can lead to the waste being fly-tipped.

Household waste should be presented for collection no later than 7am on the day of collection, but no earlier than the night before. It should be left at the boundary of your property or an agreed collection area which has been authorised by our Waste Services department.

You can report refuse being left out early.

A Fixed Penalty Notice of £100 can be issued or, if prosecuted, a fine of up to £2,500.
