Selling and repairing cars on the road

It is an offence to carry out repairs or improvements on a motor vehicle on a public highway for commercial purposes. Offenders can be prosecuted or issued with £100 penalty fines.

Report a problem

To report illegal vehicle repairs or sales of vehicles on the highway, phone 01634 33 33 33 and, if possible, have the following information:

  • Number of people involved
  • Descriptions of vehicles involved (used or repaired)
  • How often it is occurring

We will investigate reports of illegal car repairs or sales, to determine whether it causes annoyance, or is part of a business illegally operating on the public highway.
