Fees and concessions

Fees

Medway Adult and Community Learning Service provides many learning opportunities sponsored by the Skills Funding Agency. Eligibility conditions will apply to those courses.

Tuition fees

Fees are changed according to regulations relevant to particular courses. Some courses are eligible for concessions on fees, please ask enrolment staff for details.

Eligibility

Many of our classes are subsidised by the Skills Funding Agency. This funding is available to 19-year-olds and older who have been living continuously for three years in the United Kingdom (UK), or are a European Union (EU) national (or spouse or child of an EU national) who has been resident continuously in an EU country for at least the last three years. You may still be able to enrol if you do not meet this criteria. Please enquire.

Examination fees

  • All learners must pay the examination fees in full.
  • For most courses, the examination fee is additional to the course fee and payable during the course.
  • Any examination fees paid after the due date will be subject to an additional £5 administration fee.

Payment

You can pay fees by standing order if the course is over 10 weeks long and costs more than £85. Download an enrolment and standing order form (pdf 79KB). To use this, you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have this on your computer, please use our advice page.

Many courses involve additional costs which are detailed on the course information sheet.

Refunds

  • Refunds are only issued to learners who withdraw more than two weeks before the start date. A £10 administration charge will be deducted.
  • After the course has started, refunds are only given if the course is closed. The amount refunded will be a pro-rate amount calculated on the length of time the course ran.

Financial help

There is a fund available offering some limited financial support to learners who receive means-tested benefits and are studying for qualifications. The Learner Support Fund (LSF) offers assistance with childcare, travel costs, tuition and examination fees.

2012 course directory

The 2012 course directory from MACLS is available. Alternatively, it can be collected from all adult learning centres, Medway libraries, leisure centres and various community venues.
