Anti-bullying and harassment policy

The Educational Psychology Service has produced a policy and guidelines on preventing and tackling bullying and harassment in school.

It is the right of all within educational establishments (adults and pupils) to be able to work and study free from bullying, harassment or discrimination.

The policy defines bullying, harassment and racism and describes what bullying or harassment might look like. It sets out the responsibilities of the council, the schools and governing bodies. It advises that all schools should have a school policy that covers equal opportunities, bullying and harassment and procedures for monitoring its effectiveness in school.

There are also guidelines within the document for:

  • headteachers;
  • governors;
  • teachers;
  • support staff;
  • parents and carers;
  • pupils.

Finally, there is a limited list of resources that are available, including books, videos and support agencies, an example of a bullying incident record sheet for schools and an index of the relevant legislation.

You can download the anti bullying and harassment policy (pdf 276KB). To use this file you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have this on your computer, please use our advice page.
