Learning difficulties
Learning Support Services (LSS) consists of multi-disciplinary
teams of advisory and specialist teachers working for the Local
Authority (LA).
The teams offer advice, support and specialist intervention for
a range of special needs, including:
- physical and sensory impairments;
- learning difficulties;
- autism;
- speech and language;
- specific learning difficulties;
- behaviour, emotional and social problems.
Team members promote inclusion and access, working with children
from birth to 19 years in a variety of settings, including early
years, schools, clinics and in the home.
School staff, governors, parents and carers are supported in
meeting the needs and raising the achievement of all children
experiencing barriers to learning.
There are close links with other services within the LA and
agencies in health and social services.
The LSS provides opportunities for Continual Professional
Development (CPD) for teachers and teaching assistants.
