Medway Strategic Land Availability Assessment
Planning Policy Statement 3 (PPS3) requires local authorities to
produce a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA)
for their housing market area. This builds on previous studies and
is designed to provide a more realistic and justifiable indication
of capacity. It will ensure that the new planning policies within
the Local
Development Framework (LDF) are based on reliable evidence and
are therefore deliverable.
The council completed a Strategic Land Availability
Assessment (SLAA) of its area in November 2010 in order to
identify sites which are suitable for development for housing,
employment, retail and other uses and which could be developed by
2026.
The assessment identifies both sites regarded as suitable as
well as those that have been rejected. If land is identified as
having potential, this does not imply that it will be allocated for
development nor be granted planning permission.
The first review of the SLAA was completed in May 2011, which
rolled forward the end date to 2028.
The second review of the SLAA was completed in January 2012.
