Infectious diseases
There are 30 diseases that must legally be reported to Medway
Council. These are known as notifiable diseases and they
include:
- dysentery;
- tuberculosis (TB);
- rubella;
- scarlet fever;
- salmonella and other food poisoning.
The council's Food and Safety Team is responsible for
investigating the source and controlling the spread of notifiable
and some non-notifiable diseases.
People who may be suffering from one of these are advised to
contact their GP, who may then take a faecal specimen for
diagnosis. The results of this will then be formally notified to
the Food and Safety Team, who may then contact them. Workers in
food-handling environments are obliged to report any food poisoning
illness to their employers. Contact the Food and Safety Team to
find out who may be in certain risk groups, such as:
- children aged less than five years who attend nurseries,
playgroups etc.;
- people with learning disablities or special needs;
- health care workers who have direct contact with patients or
their food.
Please send one of these online forms to Medway Council to
report:
