Rubbish collection
Medway Council provides a weekly sack collection service
for rubbish, and an alternate weekly collection for recycling and food and
garden waste (brown bin).
Find out your collection information:
You must set your location before we can show you personalised refuse and recycling collection information.
An outline map of rubbish collections in Medway is
shown below.

Where to place your refuse
Unless exceptional arrangements are made, residents should put
rubbish sacks on the boundary of their properties by 7am on the day
of collection and no earlier than the night before.
Refuse must be placed at the boundary of the property,
where it meets the public highway. Residents are asked to secure
their rubbish and only put it out on the day of collection.
Rubbish which is put out too early can cause many problems,
especially the litter that
can be spread when scavenging animals attack rubbish sacks, which
can then attract rats and mice. It can also cause obstructions on
roads. The council picks up 5,000 tonnes of litter every year at a
cost £2.4m.
People who put out rubbish for collection any earlier than this
run the risk of being issued with a £110 fixed penalty notice,
reduced to £75 if paid within 10 days of being issued.
Changes to your collection
Your refuse and recycling collections will not be a day later
during bank holiday weeks (except the Christmas and New Year
weeks).
If changes to your collections occur as a result of wintry
conditions, updates will be posted on our service
changes page, on the Facebook emergency updates page and on
Twitter.
Recycling calendars
To download your recycling calendar (pdf
129KB), first identify your recycling collection information
using the set your location
link above. Then select the correct recycling calendar from the

To use a pdf file you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do
not have this on your computer, please use our advice page.
Assisted service
An assisted refuse collection service is provided free to
residents who, through illness or infirmity, are unable to put out
their refuse and do not have anyone else to help them.
If you would like further information, please contact customer
services using the details below or by completing the
online form.
Bulky waste collection
Bulky items can be collected by the bulky household
collection service and items can be taken to one of the three
household
waste and recycling centres.
Please note: If your waste or recycling are missed, you
must notify the council within 24 hours.
