Day care

Medway Council provides some services directly, while other services are purchased from the independent or voluntary sector. Full details are available in the Adult Care Guide, which also includes details of residential and day services for older people provided by Medway Council.

The council provides day care services in its own centres or arranges for a private or voluntary day care service, depending on what is best suited to the dservice user's needs.

Council day care centres offer a safe, comfortable and friendly environment. They offer a variety of practical and therapeutic services, as well as advice, support and the opportunity for people to:

  • take part in activities;
  • develop and practise their skills;
  • find out about the things they can and cannot manage;
  • get access to a variety of services.

All the people who go to day care have an individual service plan. This gives them information about how the council will work with them to provide the service they need, what they can expect to happen and why.

In some centres, the council also provides specialist services which focus on rehabilitation or specific mental health needs.
