Care and support provided
Shared Lives carers can support service
users with:
- communication;
- advocacy;
- looking after your money;
- independent living skills;
- religious and cultural beliefs;
- eating and drinking;
- getting about and mobility;
- daytime activities;
- evening activities;
- keeping safe;
- things you want to learn;
- any letters you receive;
- personal care;
- health and medication;
- contact with family and friends;
- terms and conditions.
If the service user or the carer wish to end their
stay, either person will need to give 28 days' written notice. This
could be less if both agree.
Support provided and statement of fees
Social Workers from Shared Lives offer the carer support
day and night and a Family Support Worker is available to
provide support for the service user during the week.
You can find out what their role is
by downloading the booklet Family
Support Workers: What We Do (pdf 125KB). To use this file
you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have it on your
computer, please use our advice page.
The service user will be asked to make a payment for the
care and services they receive. This is called a
Client Contribution. The amount depends on the
benefits they receive. A finance officer will work this out
for them. This is called a Financial Assessment.
This payment covers some aspects of the care, for example,
food, laundry and utility bills.
Long-term support
The service user will be given a Licence
Agreement. They will need to pay rent to their
carer but they may be entitled to housing benefit.
