Day support

Photo of a service user and carer looking at papersThe Shared Lives Scheme in Medway is a person-centred way of supporting vulnerable adults with meaningful daytime support and activities.

Opportunities provided through Shared Lives offer:

  • choice;
  • creativity;
  • flexibility.

By tailoring support to a person’s needs and aspirations, the scheme aims to be person-centred and outcome-focused.

Day support carers provide and support day activities and community involvement on a one-to-one basis or in small groups. Activities can be based in the providers home, can be varied and will depend on an individuals needs, wishes and interests. Being active, involved and included in community life is important for people's well-being and life enjoyment. Using and visiting local facilities is central to this role.

Opportunities may include:

  • Photo of a carer and service user cooking togetherlife skills;
  • art and craft;
  • drama;
  • college;
  • sports, keeping fit and gym;
  • gardening;
  • cooking;
  • computers;
  • community projects and volunteering.

We welcome suggestions from potential providers of any activities they would like to provide. The benefits of becoming a Shared Lives day support provider include:

  • discounted public liability insurance;
  • a support network;
  • introductions to potential service users;
  • training;
  • Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks.

The Enhanced Care Unit provides day support for adults with more profound and complex needs.
