I worked in a range of residential homes for six years before attending college as a mature student and qualifying with a diploma in social work. Since qualifying in 1997 I have worked with adults with learning disabilities, first at the Royal School for the Blind and then for five years as a Care Manager before joining the Medway Council Shared Lives (Adult Placement) in October 2003.

As the Registered Manager, my main responsibilities are to establish and develop the service in line with Shared Lives standards and legislation, to meet the requirements of the Care Quality Commission, to manage the team and to provide overall responsibility for maintaining high standards of care and support.

I have worked in the field of Social Care for most of my working life. I joined Medway Social Services in 2001 when I qualified as a Social Worker. I started my career with Medway Social Services by working in a Children and Families team.

Following this I worked as the transitional Social Worker in the Disabled Children’s Team supporting young people with special needs moving over to Adult Services. This experience led me to seek a change in direction by joining the Shared Lives (Adult Placement) team in 2005.

I assess individual carers and provide continuing support and monitoring, provide training opportunities, develop the Support Group meetings for carers, and the social network for both carers and users.

Jacki

Hello, my name is Jacki and I am a Social Worker in the Shared Lives Team.

I have worked in social care for most of my working life, from early beginnings supporting young people with special needs in a classroom setting; to working for a rehabilitation team assessing all ages with disabilities for equipment and adaptations; and as a day centre supervisor.

For the last 20 years I worked as a care manager for Medway Council with people with physical and/or learning disabilities until 2001 when integrated teams saw the split between disciplines and I chose to remain with learning disability services.

For the last six of those years I was responsible for young people in transition from children’s to adult services working closely with all children’s services, before joining the Shared Lives team in 2010.

I assess individual carers, provide ongoing support and monitoring and to provide training specific to the role of carers.

You can contact me on 01634 337100.
