Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy Service (IMCA)
In April 2007, the Mental Capacity
Act established a statutory advocacy service for people who lack
capacity and who have no friends or family and require support or
advocacy for serious decisions.
The role of the Independent Mental
Capacity Advocacy Service (IMCA) is explained in Booklet 6: Making decisions - The IMCA service
- Helping people who are unable to make some decisions for
themselves (pdf 609KB). To use this file you will need Adobe
Acrobat Reader. If you do not have this on your computer, please
use our advice page.
