Home care services

How can we help?

People often prefer to remain in their own homes when they need care and support and with routine domestic tasks.

Domiciliary care (help at home) can be considered if help is needed with getting up and going to bed, dressing, preparing drinks and meals and maintaining basic standards of hygiene.

Who do we work with?

Medway Council's care management service works closely with older people, people with disabilities, families and carers to provide appropriate levels of support.

The aim is to work towards keeping people as independent as possible and thus able to remain in their own homes and with family or friends for as long as they wish. The council also works with other agencies to meet their needs. All care providers are registered with and inspected by The Care Quality Commission.

What can our team offer?

Home care workers can help with a whole range of practical tasks, including laundry, cooking, washing and dressing and offer emotional support and encouragement.

Home care workers can also assist in developing the skills people need to live more independently. Night sitting services are also available. A service which delivers meals to homes is available in addition to meals in day centres.

The council also runs Medway's Telehealthcare, a telephone based community alarm system monitored 24hours a day, 365 days a year. For more details on this service, including arranging a demonstration, email: telehealthcare@medway.gov.uk

What if more support is needed?

Should someone need a more supportive environment but not residential care, Medway Council and Orbit Housing have a joint housing with care scheme based at Evelyn House in Strood.

The aim of Evelyn House is to provide care and support on an individual basis while maintaining a person's independence. The site provides 24 flats and tenants have the choice to integrate with other tenants in the communal areas or remain in their own flats.

Staff are available on site to provide support that is assessed by a care manager. There is a meals service on site providing freshly cooked meals, so tenants can provide for themselves or use the meal delivery service.
