Energy saving - grants and discounts
There are many grant and discount schemes available within
Medway for energy saving measures, like loft and cavity wall
insulation and installing energy efficient heating systems.
The main grant schemes and allowances are:
Energy conservation and fuel poverty strategies
Find out about the home energy conservation strategy and Medway’s
fuel poverty strategy.
Winter fuel payment
This annual
payment helps people aged 60 years or more with the costs of
keeping warm through the winter months.
Landlord’s energy saving allowance
This is a capital allowance for insulation measures, such as
loft and cavity wall installation for rented accommodation. To find
out more visit Directgov's
Landlord Energy Saving Allowance page.
Energy Performance Certificates
Since 1 October 2008, both sellers and landlords have been
required by law to provide an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)
to potential buyers and tenants. This certificate is issued by a
Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA) and provides information on the
energy performance of a building.
Coldbusters

available to help residents in receipt of certain

Save energy, save money
- Around 50 per cent of heat loss in a typical home is
through un-insulated walls and lofts. The average home in the UK
could save around £175 every year by installing loft insulation,
and £135 every year by installing cavity wall insulation.
- Many of the houses in UK have solid walls. If you have solid
walls, you can insulate them with external wall insulation, saving
you around £475 a year on your energy bills.
Savings were taken from Energy Saving Trust 2013, are
approximate and provided for illustrative purposes only. They are
based on a typical three-bedroom house heated by gas, with an
average boiler efficiency of 78 per cent.
- By replacing an old and inefficient boiler with a new
condensing boiler and heating controls, you could reduce your
energy bills by up to £300 every year.
Savings were taken from Energy Saving Trust 2013. They are for
changing from an old G rated boiler to an A rated condensing boiler
and a full set of heating controls. Savings are approximate,
provided for illustrative purposes only and are based on a gas
heated semi-detached house with three bedrooms.
