Motor salvage

Motor salvage is regulated by the Vehicles Crime Act 2001 (www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts2001/ukpga_20010003_en_1) and the Motor Salvage Operators Regulations 2002 (www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2002/20021916.htm).

This legislation makes it difficult for criminals to dispose of stolen vehicles through the motor salvage industry and increases their chance of detection if they attempt to do so.

The police enforce these requirements strictly.

All motor salvage operators are required to register with the council and to keep comprehensive records of transactions.
