Licensing

Although there is currently no zoo in Medway, the council is responsible for the licensing of zoos under the Zoo Licensing Act 1981.

Should the need arise, the council would work in close partnership with the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) on all aspects of zoo licensing. Further information about this can be found at www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-countryside/gwd/zoo.htm.
