Sunday trading notification

All large shops (with a floor area of 280m2 or more) may open for a maximum of six hours from 10am to 6pm. If the Sunday is an Easter or Christmas Day, these shops are not permitted to open. The hours of trading must be displayed on notices inside and outside the shop.

All shops less than the above size will not need to register with the council or keep to certain opening times.

Some shops are exempt, such as:

  • restaurants;
  • takeaways;
  • farm shops;
  • chemists;
  • petrol stations;
  • motor or cycle suppliers;
  • shops at an airport, railway station or airport;
  • those selling alcoholic drinks.
