Exciting times for Chatham The location of Chatham’s new bus station was agreed by Medway Council’s cabinet on 19 February 2008. The agreed site, on Globe Lane and Sir John Hawkins Way, will provide a modern bus facility for Chatham, after the demolition of the Sir John Hawkins flyover. The bus station is one of a number of projects for which, the Communities and Local Government (CLG) has agreed funding totalling £20.1million for the next three years to facilitate Chatham’s regeneration programme. This is coupled with continuing negotiations with a private sector investment partner, which could provide further resources. The cabinet decision on the bus station will enable the council to forge ahead with its regeneration ambitions and transform Chatham into a dynamic city centre for Medway.

The second phase of the road traffic improvement works for Chatham, which include plans to widen the sections of the road network within and around the town centre, are now being planned to follow the first phase of road works, which involved the re-introduction of the two-way traffic system in September 2006.
The completion of this second phase will be a key element in providing the public transport and road infrastructure system needed to enable Chatham’s regeneration programme to be realised.
The precise details of the programme of works will be confirmed in due course.
