The Medway Fair Trader Scheme is operated by Medway Trading Standards Service and helps businesses comply with the law and improve consumer protection. It operates within Medway for businesses that are based there. They can become members provided they meet the terms and conditions of the scheme.
The benefits for businesses:
- the promotion of a company as a Fair Trader business with its name on the Medway Fair Trader Scheme list and on the business directory with a link to the company website;
- the potential for increased business, with consumers encouraged to use local traders;
- independent recognition of a business by Medway Trading Standards;
- a Medway Fair Trader Scheme membership certificate and logo to use for display and marketing;
- pre-entry vetting to make sure a business meets the scheme’s high standards.
The benefits for consumers:
- Consumers can check with Trading Standards to see which businesses are members of the scheme before purchasing goods or services.
- The scheme is voluntary. By joining the scheme businesses are demonstrating a commitment to customer care and fair trading.
- Trading Standards will continue to work closely with scheme members and will carry out monitoring exercises to make sure high standards are maintained.

Membership There is an up-to-date list of members of businesses already on the scheme. The annual charge for membership of the Medway Fair Traders scheme is £139.40, which is subject to review.
