Logo: Fair trader scheme

This scheme is operated by Medway Trading Standards Service to help businesses comply with the law and to improve consumer protection. The scheme operates within the area administered by Medway Council. Businesses can sign up and provided they meet its conditions, they can become members.

Great benefits for businesses are:

  • independent recognition of business standards by Trading Standards;
  • the potential for increased business, with consumers encouraged to use local traders;
  • Medway Fair Trader Scheme membership certificate for display and use of the scheme’s logo;
  • pre-entry vetting to make sure each business meets the scheme’s high standards;
  • the promotion of each company as a Fair Trader business with the company name on the Medway Fair Trader Scheme list and on this website, with a hotlink to the company website;
  • improved consumer confidence, leading to fewer complaints about a business or service.

Medway Fair Trader Scheme members will be able to establish a relationship with the Trading Standards Service based on co-operation rather than enforcement. All member businesses will have a named contact in Trading Standards and can obtain information on consumer civil law and legislation enforced by the Service. In addition, Trading Standards will assist members with staff training where resources permit.

Are there membership fees?

There is an annual charge of £139.40. This is subject to review.
