What is it?
Pension Credit is a new Social Security benefit and is administered by The Pension Service. It consists of two elements: Guarantee Credit and Savings Credit. Clients may be entitled to either or both.
Who can claim the Guarantee Credit?
To be eligible a claimant must:
- be aged 60 years or over;
- live in Great Britain and satisfy the Habitual Residence Test;
- have income of less than the appropriate minimum guarantee;
- not be subject to immigration control.
Who can claim the Savings Credit?
To be eligible a claimant must:
- be aged 65 years or over;
- live in Great Britain and satisfy the Habitual Residence Test;
- have qualifying income that exceeds the savings threshold but is not too high to produce a nil award;
- not be subject to immigration control.
A person’s Applicable Amount may be higher if they are:
- severely disabled;
- a carer; or
- have certain housing costs.
