Citizens Advice Medway

Citizens Advice Medway offers free, confidential, impartial and independent advice on many subjects including:

  • debt,
  • welfare benefits,
  • housing,
  • domestic abuse,
  • employment.

Initial access is by telephone only.

There are two Citizens Advice Bureaux (CAB) in Medway, which can be found at:

General help

  • Monday to Friday 9.30am-3pm.
  • Phone 0844 8269709.
  • 24-hour automated advice line outside these times.
  • Drop-in at the Chatham CAB.
  • Access to an appointment service.

Chatham Self-Help Information Centre

  • Monday to Friday 9.30am-3pm.
  • Call at reception on the second floor for assessment only.
  • Access to information kiosk.

Domestic Abuse Helpline

  • Monday to Friday 9am-5pm.
  • Based at the Gillingham CAB, phone 01634 576083.

Debt and Housing Helpline

  • Monday to Friday 9.30am-3pm.
  • Based at the Chatham CAB, phone 01634 888182 or text your name and brief details of the issue you need help with to 07913 677832.

Living Well

  • Monday to Friday 8am-5pm.
  • Based at the Chatham CAB, phone 01634 888199 for vulnerable people who need support to remain independent and access support services.

Specialist casework

  • Monday to Friday 8am-5pm.
  • Specialist debt, welfare benefits, housing, domestic abuse and employment advice are available, please phone 0844 826 9709 or drop in at the Chatham CAB, Monday to Friday 9.30am-3.30pm to speak to an advisor to arrange an appointment.

Chatham jobseekers advisory service

  • Monday to Friday 9.30am-3pm.
  • Help with job search and writing CVs.
  • Based at the Chatham CAB.
  • No appointment is necessary, call at reception on the second floor.

Volunteers

Every CAB is a registered charity, reliant on volunteers who make up 90 per cent of the people who staff the bureaux in Chatham and Gillingham. Their volunteer roles are as:

  • advisers,
  • trainee advisers,
  • administrative support workers,
  • receptionists,
  • social policy co-ordinators,
  • guidance tutors,
  • session supervisors,
  • mentors,
  • management committee,
  • advisory group members.
