Alleygating
Photo of an alleygate

Alleygating has been shown to work. A number of criminal or anti-social acts can be curtailed or eliminated if security gates are installed.

However, residents should be aware that gating is only one solution and sometimes it may not be possible, for legal reasons, to install gates.

At present, Medway Council does not provide an alley gating service but has prepared a comprehensive information pack (pdf, 218KB) for use by residents, which explains what they need to do, who else needs to be involved and how long the process of providing gates is likely to take.

To use this file you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have this on your computer, please use our advice page.
