Jack was the most popular boy's name nationally in 2007 for the 13th consecutive year and in Medway the top name was Charlie for the first time. Grace was the most popular girl's name nationally with Sophie topping the list locally.

More than 4,000 births are registered in Medway each year and in 2005 over 1,280 different forenames were chosen. There was a considerable variety of names, with 840 that were chosen only once.
