Alzheimer's and Dementia Family Support (ADFS)

What is offered?

  • Support and information.
  • Support with Attendance Allowance and Disability Living Allowance Benefit claims.
  • Home visits
  • Counselling, including bereavement counselling.
  • Advocacy.
  • Friendship groups.
  • Chair based exercises.
  • Outings and events.

ADFS is funded and supported by Medway Primary Care Trust and Kent County Council and is managed by the Council for Voluntary Service Medway (www.cvsmedway.plus.com).

Carers' Relief Service

Carers' Relief provides a short break to carers of adults with a learning disability who live at home. It aims to provide a flexible service, based on the needs of the main carers and their dependants.

It employs personal support workers to work in the community with the adult with a learning disability and duties can include:

  • befriending;
  • shopping;
  • swimming, bowling and other sporting activities;
  • hospital visits;
  • attending parties, clubs and other social groups;
  • staying in the home.

Carers' Relief also supports adults with a learning disability who are living independently in the community.

Medway Crossroads Caring for Carers

The aim of Medway Crossroads is to relieve stress by providing short breaks for carers of disabled people living at home. In turn, this will help enable disabled people to stay in their own homes.

Its services are carer-led, flexible - to meet the needs of carers - and should supplement and complement rather than replace existing social services.
