North Kent Training Service (NKTS) for the Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS): Accessible, relevant and excellent value since 2004
NKTS (www.nkts.co.uk) is based at the Council for Voluntary Service (www.cvsmedway.org.uk). It primarily provides training for VCS staff and volunteers, to build capacity within their organisations. Up to date training programmes can be found on the NKTS website. These courses are funded by the Big Lottery Fund and by working in partnership with Swale CVS and North West Kent CVS, courses can be delivered over the whole north Kent region.
Courses are wide and varied, responding to the needs of the sector. They are very cheap in comparison to other training bodies and include:
- management of volunteers;
- fundraising;
- presentation skills;
- Sage accounting.
In addition to the Big Lottery Funded programme, money has also been made available from the Learning and Skills Council's Neighbourhood Learning in Deprived Communities (NLDC) fund for courses for unemployed people or low-paid and part-time workers who need skills and qualifications to get a job.
These courses are free and include:
- first aid certificates:
- food safety;
- Portable Appliance Testing training;
- Door Security qualifications and licences;
- Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Construction Card;
- phone skills.
Check out the website or phone to ask about the hundreds of courses it can provide or if you have any ideas for courses you would like to take.
