North Kent Training Service (NKTS) for the Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS): Accessible, relevant and excellent value since 2004
The NKTS is based at the Council for Voluntary Service (www.cvsmedway.org.uk). It primarily provides training for:
- VCS staff and volunteers, to build capacity within their organisations;
- VCS members and user groups, to help them gain employment, deal with life issues or to give them a skill in something they enjoy doing;
- unemployed people who need skills and qualifications to get a job through the Learning and Skills Council's Neighbourhood Learning in Deprived Communities (NLDC) fund.
In fact, anyone can participate in its courses.
There is a sliding scale of prices ranging from zero, for those who fit the NLDC criteria, to a maximum fee of £60 for employed people outside the VCS.
Courses include:
- confidence building;
- workshops for work (curriculum vitae (CV) preparation, interview skills);
- first aid certificates;
- food safety;
- Portable Appliance Testing Training;
- occasionally, courses leading to a qualification, such as Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS).
Check out the website or phone to ask about the hundreds of courses it can provide or if you have any ideas for courses you would like to take.
Also at CVS Medway is the TillSkills Project, providing training on electronic point of sale equipment and customer service. Coming soon is call centre training.
