Arranging your wedding
A legal wedding must be solemnised in a place that has been sanctioned according to the law for the celebration of marriages, after legal preliminaries have been observed.
For all marriages (except those taking place in the Church of England or Church in Wales) legal preliminaries must take place at a register office before the wedding takes place.
Formal notice of intention to marry can be given up to 12 months before the wedding but bookings for civil weddings in Medway can be made further in advance than this.
Further information about arranging your marriage may be obtained from Directgov (www.direct.gov.uk/en/Governmentcitizensandrights/Registeringlifeevents/Marriagesandcivilpartnerships/DG_175715).
Further information about planning a wedding at the Church of England or Church in Wales may be obtained here from the Church of England website (www.cofe.anglican.org/lifeevents/weddings) or the Church in Wales website www.churchinwales.org.uk/life/marriage.
