The attractive and historic Eastgate House in Rochester High Street has become a very popular venue. This beautiful, stylish and impressive building was built in 1590 and is steeped in history. It was originally owned by Sir Peter Buck, Alderman and Mayor of Rochester. During the late 1700s and well into the 1800s it was used as a young ladies' boarding school. The splendid oak-panelled ceremony room has a feature fireplace and offers a true sense of occasion. The room is on the first floor and provides seating for 40 people with additional standing space. The building is associated with Charles Dickens and is referred to as the Westgate House Seminary for Young Ladies in The Pickwick Papers and as Miss Twinkerton’s School for Young Ladies in The Mystery of Edwin Drood.
