Medway Council has a statutory duty to undertake many different types of enforcement, through a range of departments and co-ordinated across the council. It enforces a number of laws and seeks to improve the quality of life and the health and safety of people who live, work or study in Medway and those who visit Medway.

The council has a Corporate Enforcement Policy that demonstrates its commitment to protecting the rights, quality of life and environment of the people of Medway by providing robust and effective enforcement services. The policy refers to partnership working, core values, working with government departments and commissions and acts of Parliament.
