Once a request for information is received, the council will send the applicant an acknowledgement and confirm that it is being dealt with. The request will also be sent to appropriate staff members so the information can be gathered.
Staff will review the request and see if it will take a long time to gather the information. If the work takes over three days, the council is entitled to ask for a fee. If it decides to charge this fee, the applicant will be informed and once the council has received payment, it will continue to process the request.

When all the information in response to the request has been obtained, it will be reviewed to check whether exemptions apply. Those exemptions may mean that part or all of the information cannot be released. The applicant will be informed if an exemption is being considered, especially if it means the 20 working day response time will be exceeded. After this work is completed, a response will be sent to the applicant. The council has 20 working days to comply with the request once received or once a payment has been received if the information is chargeable.
