up arrow : go up one level Maritime Heritage Trail
What the project has achieved in Medway

The second phase of the Maritime Heritage Trail has been a great success and partly funds the following capital projects:

  • Upnor Castle

    • The installation of improved interpretation panels and the renewal of the multi-lingual guide system and possible other types of audio-visual interpretation.
  • Chatham Historic Dockyard

    • No.3 Covered Slip Large Object Store
In partnership with the Royal Engineers Museum (REM), this project involves the creation of an accessible and interpreted store to house the reserve collections of large museum objects from both Chatham Historic Dockyard and the REM, allowing visitors to experience them for the first time.
    • HMS Gannet
The installation of a computerised, bilingual, virtual tour will enable those who cannot get on board to see a reconstruction of the ship’s unrestored machinery spaces.
    • Ship’s Timbers
The development of a detailed scheme for the removal of the timbers from the Wheelwright’s Shop and their conservation and display in No.1 Workbase.
