Medway Council, in line with its overall Performance Plan, has demonstrated how vital it is for existing communities to access the benefits of Medway’s regeneration. These benefits include access to more and higher value employment, as well as general improvements to community quality of life. This principle applies particularly to existing communities in Medway, in wards and neighbourhoods that currently feature among the most disadvantaged in the south-east. It also concerns disadvantaged groups such as older workers, disabled people and ethnic minority communities.
The Social Regeneration and Europe service has taken a co-ordinating role in the design and implementation of a continuing programme of social regeneration, which closely complements the physical regeneration of Medway’s waterfront.
The social regeneration programme is founded on in-depth and sustained partnership working with local residents, local community organisations, the voluntary sector and other statutory public service providers.
