On 3 September 2007, the Medway Warden Service was disbanded and its staff merged with other teams within the council. Some of their former responsibilities passed to the Medway Safer Communities Officers, while others were taken on by the Environmental Enforcement Team and the Highways Department. Together, they continue to protect and improve the town and country areas of Medway.
These teams work with many other agencies, including the police and fire service, monitoring refuse collection, street cleaning and grounds maintenance and carry out safety inspections on the condition of public roads and pavements.
They encourage good environmental behaviour by education, promotion and law enforcement and actively discourage anti-social behaviour such as fly-tipping, litter and dog fouling.
They deal with complaints about stray dogs, discarded syringes, abandoned vehicles, overhanging hedges and also provide a response to significant emergency incidents.
There is further information on this website about their environmental enforcement activities and a full list of fixed penalty notices.
If you need any help or advice about the correct disposal of your trade or domestic waste, along with any of the above areas of enforcement, please use the contact details below.
