Pedestrians, horse riders and cyclists can use bridleways (also known as bridlepaths). You can also lead horses, donkeys or mules and in some circumstances, drive other animals along bridleways.
Cyclists were given the right to use bridleways in the Countryside Act 1968 and are required to give way to both walkers and horse riders. The Act did not place a duty on highway authorities to maintain bridleways to a standard suitable for cyclists, so bridleways may not be suitable for cycling, even on mountain bikes.
