The Medway Council parking service manages the provision of off-street and on-street parking, as well as areas where parking is prohibited in the interests of safety, the free flow of traffic and residential and visitor amenity.

The parking service also deals with issuing:

  • parking permits,
  • season tickets,
  • penalty charge notices (PCNs),
  • parking enforcement.

The service is responsible for enforcing parking restrictions and employs parking attendants to do this, including:

  • council car parks,
  • on-street pay and display areas,
  • single and double yellow lines,
  • disabled bay misuse (providing it is covered by the Road Traffic Act 1991 or the Traffic Managment Act 2004),
  • residential permit areas,
  • school parking restictions,
  • bus lane and bus stop enforcement.

The car parks are patrolled to prevent access ways being obstructed. There is closed circuit television (CCTV) coverage and high quality lighting to provide a safe environment. In the multi-storey car parks, the parking service also makes sure that the ticket machines are filled and provide a 24-hour call-out facility in case the barriers fail to operate properly.
