Where to park in Medway

All Medway Council car parks, except the Brook and Market Hall multi-storey in Chatham, are free overnight (the tariff boards in each car park state the times).

You may find yourself liable for a penalty charge if you do not clearly display a ticket in pay and display areas, park outside marked bays or park in a designated disabled parking bay without displaying a valid disabled person's blue badge. Tickets are not transferable between vehicles or car parks.

Season tickets are available for all long-term car parks.

Any queries relating to penalty charges or season tickets should be made to the Parking Services Team, using the details at the foot of the page.

Disabled parking

All council car parks are free to blue badge holders and most have dedicated wide bays to assist wheelchair users. However, disabled drivers are liable to a penalty charge if they park outside the marked bays or fail to display their badge and clock. Solomons Road and Fullagers Yard car parks in Chatham and Kings Head car park in Rochester are exclusively for disabled people.

Free park and ride service

A free park and ride service operates every Saturday from Horsted to Chatham town centre. The service begins at 9am with the last bus leaving Military Road at about 5.40pm.

Residents' parking

There are various areas set aside for residents’ parking. Restrictions vary from area to area and are stated on street signs. For information about permits, restrictions or related matters, contact the Parking Services Team.

Car park security

Medway Council has introduced closed circuit television (CCTV) in many of its car parks. The cameras are monitored 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and are successful in reducing the level of crime, leading to Medway Council receiving awards under the Automobile Association and Home Office Secured Car Parks Award Scheme.

However, no security system can guarantee the total elimination of crime, so please help the council to help you. Ensure that your car is locked when you leave it and that all valuables are out of sight.

Coach parking

Coaches may park free in Acorn Wharf Coach Park, Rochester (37 spaces). Overnight lorry parking is available at Whiffens Avenue (Chatham). The tariff boards state the prices.
